Okay, let's talk about Doodles. A 500% rally? In this market? It would be enough to make even the most jaded crypto veteran go, hmmm. The biggest headlines are screaming about the growth of the NFT market, the return of CryptoPunks, and Bitcoin’s flirtation with the $100,000 club. Underneath it all, something extraordinary might be brewing. As a Southeast Asian woman fully devoted to the notion that art and technology can empower communities, I have a very different vantage point.

Emerging Markets Finally Getting Heard?

Let's be real. Decentralization, for all the rhetoric the Web3 space spills is mostly a Western curse, consumed by unilateral plotlines and the presence of Western voices. It’s been a discouraging stretch for the creatives like us working in emerging markets who have plenty of unrealized creative firepower. This region is absolutely hopping with artists, designers and creative innovators. They are ready for a stage, for an audience, for their voice to shine through, and their piece of the proverbial pie. I had this nagging concern that artists from these so-called and naturally emerging markets were being left behind. Do you feel this way too?

And that's where Doodles comes in. Vibrant, inclusive branding and community focus works differently here. Admittedly it’s more complex than buying and flipping NFTs for a quick buck. It’s not just about the music, it’s about finding a community, connecting deeply, expressing yourself and being part of something bigger.

Think of it this way: traditional art institutions have often been inaccessible to artists from marginalized communities. Galleries are gatekept, funding is missing, recognition is a battle. Web3, in theory, gives artists an opportunity to escape those gatekeepers. Doodles prioritize community governance and artist collaboration. They have the potential to be a great template for how to succeed in this new space.

Is it truly a renaissance? Or simply a devious marketing ploy taking advantage of a marketplace thirsty for a diversity of voices?

Token Launch Driving the Hype?

Let’s not kid ourselves that the DOOD token launch isn’t a big part of this rally. I think we all understand the basic dynamics of the crypto market. A new token release occurs, prices skyrocket and like moths to the flame everyone rushes in trying to capitalize on the huge wins. And, where does that leave the real artists from emerging? What does that mean for the actual community builders, though, who are truly committed to the long-term vision of Doodles? Or are they being overwhelmed by the market shout from speculators seeking a flip profit?

The numbers tell a story. Even though the sales volume is up, market participation is down. Fewer buyers, fewer sellers, fewer transactions overall. It’s a more focused surge, maybe led a little bit more by the whales, but definitely by the retail or opportunistic traders.

  • NFT Sales Volume: Up 10.69%
  • NFT Buyers: Down 76.8%
  • NFT Sellers: Down 74.42%
  • NFT Transactions: Down 11.57%

These numbers serve as a cautionary reminder that the NFT market is still very speculative and often driven by hype. Let’s not rush to crown a new creative renaissance just because of a few months of eye-popping auction results.

Authenticity Versus Speculation?

I can't help but wonder if this Doodles rally is truly a sign of a sustainable shift towards genuine artistic value and community ownership, or if it's just another fleeting moment in the sun fueled by speculation.

Look, I'm all for artists getting paid. I'm all for communities being empowered. I understand that the current Web3 space is inundated with scams, rug pulls, and vapid promises. It’s understandable to get excited by all of the hoopla and the food and forget everything going on around you.

The truth, I would guess, is found somewhere in the middle. Doodles has undoubtedly done some good things. They've created a vibrant and engaging community. They’ve provided a space for artists to present their creations. It’s the public health community that should be held accountable for failing to rein Narris and their ilk.

  • Are Doodles truly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community?
  • Are they empowering artists from emerging markets with real opportunities?
  • Or are they simply using diversity as a marketing tool to attract a wider audience?

I personally see the Doodles rally as a terrific positive lightning-in-a-bottle catalyst for that change. It raises a very small spark of optimism in a field often clouded by self-interest and bullshit. Great potential Doodles is off to a tremendous start. Its true potential will be determined by the decisions Doodles makes in the coming months and years. It depends on their commitment to their community, their dedication to artistic integrity, and their willingness to challenge the status quo.

Let’s leverage the hope and enthusiasm that Doodles have inspired. In the process, we’ll not only create a more equitable and inclusive Web3 ecosystem, but hopefully ignite a true creative renaissance. More is needed to elucidate the full picture. The future of Web3, and the artists it aspires to uplift, rely on that conviction. Are you with me?

If we can harness the energy and excitement surrounding Doodles to build a more equitable and inclusive Web3 ecosystem, then maybe, just maybe, we can start talking about a real creative renaissance. But for now, let's keep our expectations in check and our eyes wide open. The future of Web3, and the artists it champions, depends on it. Are you with me?
