FIFA has revealed plans to migrate its digital collectibles platform, FIFA Collect, to an entirely new blockchain infrastructure. The group publicized the migration announcement on April 30, with the migration move not taking place before May 20th. This transition is intended to improve the utility of the site and beyond, while laying the groundwork for even more innovation down the road.

FIFA Collect was launched in May 2023 based on the Algorand blockchain. Now, it will move to what FIFA euphemistically calls “FIFA Blockchain.” This migration has brought a huge enhancement in functionality and scalability for the users of the platform.

Attention FIFA Collect holders – you’ll want to take special action! If your NFTs are in an external wallet, make sure to reimport them into Rarible before May 20 to ensure a seamless transition. Collectibles will transfer to any EVM-compatible wallet that’s WalletConnect-compatible.

FIFA indicated that after May 20, manual migration will only be available through customer support, which may include the need for extra verification. The organization has been pushing users to act prior to the Nov. 6 deadline in order to prevent unnecessary complications.

The changeover to the new “FIFA Blockchain” is meant to improve the platform’s performance. FIFA is focused on creating a richer, more dynamic and exciting space for digital collectibles to exist.
